cosmetic changes for the forum board
Posted on 5 Jan 2012
Yesterday I started to work on the look and feel of the forum board. The initial idea behind the change is to simplify the compelete layout of the forum as I am going along with this change. Since there are some really odd template design technical things inside the templates of the original phpbb3 forums. My personal aim here is to reshape it to a stripped down forumboard and go from there. So in this case I have a more 'clean' setup to work with before I am going to start hanging new balls on the christmas tree sort of...
In addition, I replaced the old kernel of the forum board with the new one. This would be the next step on where I want to take this reason forum board to. I am not giving away that much of a detail, I am just saying that what I am trying to do with the forums, I am only going to say that I am trying to reshape phpbb3 while I am at it (call it a phpbb3 fork if you will).
Some things I am not really sure about would be:
- the music player on the profile page (I am planning to ditch this effort since it simply flawed with the old TSOR concept)
- or maybe replace the music player with soundcloud in general...
- Chatroom. I am not sure how much impact this would have outside a dedicated box. Maybe I just need to test this feature and see what happens with it
- Viewpost seems to be rather flat right now
- Login box at the top of the page rather then at the bottom
- Blogs (do we really need these?)
- Uploading files, due to the limited storage space on the webserver (where I had unlimited before) I think I need to get rid of file uploading in general since this can suck up the webserver space really fast.
- Replacement for uploading, integration with some form of uploading service would be ideal (dropbox?)
- Replacing the images (iconsets / buttons) that came with the original prosilver template
- Indexing for Google. Currently I have turned this option off (I have my reasons for this one)
- Integrate the forumboard more with the frontpage. Initial setup is already there, but could also add profile settings there so it becomes more personal that way.
